China dominates the Honest 100 with 45 buildings - almost half the list. The range of performance is wide: CITIC Tower (China Zun) in Beijing scores a 1.1% Vanity Ratio (5.7 metres of unoccupied height above 522 metres of office floors), while buildings like CITIC Plaza in Guangzhou reach 23.9%. The median Vanity Ratio across confirmed Chinese buildings is approximately 8% - meaning the typical Chinese supertall is genuinely more honest than the global average. Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing, and Guangzhou each have multiple entries in the confirmed rankings. Dozens more Chinese buildings have unconfirmed occupied floor data.

Buildings ranked by Honest Height - the elevation of the highest occupied floor, not architectural top. The gap is the Vanity Ratio. See the full methodology.

The honest take on China

China built more supertalls in the last 20 years than the rest of the world combined. The honest data shows this was largely done without the excessive spire inflation common in other markets. The median Vanity Ratio sits below 10%. When Chinese towers do have vanity in the design, it tends to be architectural crown rather than broadcast spire - which produces shorter but more proportionate gaps. The outliers exist (CITIC Plaza at 23.9%) but are the exception, not the rule.
