About the deck
Canton Tower's Sky Drop and outdoor observation ring at 488 metres is the highest outdoor observation deck in China and one of the highest outdoor public spaces in the world. The tower's distinctive hyperboloid lattice structure narrows at mid-height then widens again at the top, creating a waist at 280m and a broader crown above. The outdoor ring at 488m wraps the upper antenna section and offers 360-degree unobstructed views across Guangzhou's Pearl River Delta.
The Sky Drop experience is a vertical drop ride mounted on the outside of the tower at this elevation..
The honest take
Canton Tower is a broadcast and tourism tower, not an occupied supertall - it does not appear in our Honest 100. But at 488m outdoors, it offers the highest open-air observation access in China. The lattice structure means the view from the outside ring looks through the tower's own structural steel in all directions - an unusual visual effect at this elevation.
