About the deck
The Top of Shanghai Observatory at floor 121 of Shanghai Tower is the highest observation deck in China and one of the highest in the world at 562 metres. The deck occupies the upper zone of the twisting supertall, where the building's double-skin facade creates a dramatic interior atrium environment. The glass-enclosed observation level offers 360-degree views across the Lujiazui financial district, Pudong, and on clear days to the outer reaches of the Yangtze Delta.
Shanghai Tower is the tallest building by honest height in China, with the vast majority of its 632-metre architectural top being genuinely occupied..
The honest take
At 562 metres, this is the highest enclosed observation deck on Earth. Shanghai Tower's Vanity Ratio of 7.7% means the deck sits within the genuinely occupied zone of the building - not a decorative crown. The architecture rewards the elevation: the spiral twist means every angle of view is slightly different from the one before.
