About the deck
Tour Montparnasse is a 210m office tower in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, and the highest outdoor observation platform in Paris at the rooftop level of approximately 196m. The building has both an indoor 56th floor observation deck and an open-air rooftop terrace. Tour Montparnasse is notable as the only skyscraper in central Paris - city zoning laws passed in 1977 in response to public opposition to the tower prohibit any new buildings over 37m in central Paris.
The tower's contested position in Parisian architectural history makes it the rare building that is simultaneously a major tourist attraction and an object of civic regret. The view includes the Eiffel Tower in the mid-distance (from this angle, you see it without other skyscrapers competing)..
The honest take
Tour Montparnasse is the only observation deck from which you can see the Eiffel Tower without being on the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower's 3rd floor deck charges EUR 36.70 ($39.64) for 276m. Montparnasse charges approximately EUR 20 for 196m and includes the Eiffel Tower in the view. For Paris context rather than maximum elevation, Montparnasse offers a different value proposition.
